Network of Residential Public Schools

With its focus on the desperate need to train healthcare workers across the state and the nation, ASHS becomes the fourth in this highly acclaimed collection of campuses that has already turned out hundreds of leaders in the arts, STEM and technology professions.
Alabama School of Fine Arts
The Alabama School of Fine Arts (ASFA), located in downtown Birmingham, is a state-funded public school offering tuition-free conservatory style and college preparatory education to talented middle and high school students statewide.
ASFA had its start as a community effort in 1968 and was authorized as a state-supported school by the legislature in 1971. Students select one of six specialties—creative writing, dance, math-science, music, theatre arts, or visual arts—devoting significant daily time to their chosen discipline alongside robust core academics. ASFA provides boarding options and boasts high college placement and scholarship rates, nurturing students to become cultural leaders and innovators in their fields.
Alabama School of Math and Science
Based in Mobile, the Alabama School of Math and Science (ASMS) is the state’s only fully residential public high school specializing in advanced studies for sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
Founded by the state legislature in 1989, ASMS serves highly motivated students from across Alabama, supporting them in STEM and humanities coursework within a research-focused, college-level environment. The campus offers modern living and learning facilities, with a competitive admissions process emphasizing academic achievement, motivation, and campus diversity. ASMS is recognized as a launchpad for future leaders in STEM and research.
Alabama School of Cyber Technology and Engineering
The Alabama School of Cyber Technology and Engineering (ASCTE) in Huntsville was founded in 2018 as the nation’s first high school dedicated to seamlessly integrating cyber technology and engineering across all academic disciplines.
ASCTE attracts academically gifted students statewide, offering a rigorous, hands-on learning environment with mandatory internships and real-world experiences guided by educators who are experts in their fields.
With both commuter and residential options, this public magnet school prepares students for advanced studies and careers in innovative STEM fields while upholding core values like honor, integrity, and tenacity. Admission is competitive and open to Alabama residents.
