Curriculum

For Students & State

At the Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences, we are building something new and necessary – a curriculum designed to meet the real needs of students and the state they will one day serve. Our goal is straightforward: offer healthcare education pathways that lead to well-paying, high-demand careers, preparing students to enter Alabama’s workforce or pursue further studies.

This goes beyond picking courses. It’s a careful process, shaped by data, guided by healthcare leaders, and focused on Alabama’s economic and workforce needs, particularly in rural areas where skilled professionals are in short supply.

Our team continues to collaborate with state partners, academic experts, and industry employers to craft pathways that are relevant and responsive to ever-changing healthcare.

Career-Connected Learning

Our students will complete all required courses in subjects like English, Math, Science, History, and Foreign Language. In their first year, they’ll also take am introductory computer science class, participate in a  seminar called Foundations of Healthcare Leadership and Professionalism, and explore health sciences. These early courses are designed to teach core skills while introducing students to the variety of healthcare careers available.

At ASHS, ninth and tenth grade students begin their journey with a dynamic curriculum designed to build both academic excellence and career readiness. In addition to core subjects and foreign language, students explore specialized courses including:

  • Computer Science in Healthcare
  • Healthcare Leadership, Professionalism, and Career Readiness
  • Medical Terminology
  • Medical Research & Writing
  • Foundations of Health Science

This well-rounded foundation equips students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to choose a focused healthcare pathway for their junior and senior years.

Built for Excellence. Built for Alabama.

Every element of the ASHS curriculum is designed with care. We’re hiring highly qualified teachers, many with certifications in both academic and healthcare fields. Our courses will meet state accreditation standards, ensuring students who stay with us or transfer back to their home high schools stay on track with their goals.

But our vision is bigger than meeting requirements. We’re building an academic model that redefines how high schools prepare students for healthcare careers. This isn’t about adding a few classes; it’s about rethinking how we train and motivate the next generation of professionals.

At ASHS, our graduates will be prepared, confident, and ready for opportunity. And Alabama will gain a stronger, more capable healthcare workforce, one student at a time.
